I’m a freelance writer and tutor based in the north east of England, passionate about the benefits of writing and reading for all.

My short stories and poetry have been published by Shooter Literary Magazine, Open Pen Magazine, Ellipsis Zine, Butcher’s Dog, Papaya Press, and Spelk Fiction among others.

My writing tends to explore everyday life and I love anything that hints at a bigger story or secret. Discarded shopping lists or notes. Overheard conversations. Family rituals and sayings. Facebook posts. Button boxes. Old postcards. Old photographs. Old letters. Museum displays. Dedications in second hand books. These are the kind of things that interest and inspire me. You can find out more about my writing here.

I’m a qualified adult education tutor and teach creative writing for the Workers Educational Association and other organisations. I’ve delivered courses and workshops in community centres, libraries, museums, theatres, day centres and schools to inspire and support people – whatever their background – to write creatively.

I love helping people tell stories, particularly if they lack confidence or think they can’t write. Some of my most rewarding and interesting work has been with adults with learning disabilities where we’ve also shared stories verbally and by drawing pictures. You can read more about my creative writing tutoring here.

I’ve also mentored adults and young people so they can make progress with their writing and judged writing competitions. You can find information on my critique and mentoring services here.
